Croatian leader reassures nation will not send its soldiers to Ukraine

(MENAFN) Croatian President Zoran Milanovic on Monday reiterated that Croatia will not send military forces to Ukraine.

“I have received a mandate from the Croatian people to maintain this stance, so I repeat that Croatian soldiers will not take part in foreign wars,” Milanovic stated on social media.

His comments followed the recent virtual meeting of the Coalition of the Willing leaders. Milanovic criticized Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic for participating in the discussions, emphasizing that Croatia is bound only by its EU and NATO obligations.

He added that Croatia has no duties under political or military agreements within the so-called Coalition of the Willing, and that the government cannot commit the country to any new coalition that might involve deploying troops to Ukraine.

The Coalition meeting, co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, also included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The group reaffirmed support for Ukraine and praised Zelenskyy’s pursuit of a just and lasting peace ahead of his Washington visit with US President Trump.
